Oxidative status in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most frequently peripheral vestibular disorder, especially in older patients suffering from vertigo [1]. The brief vertigo attacks and imbalance symptomatic of BPPV are caused by otoconia freely floating within the semicircular canals [2]. Vertigo occurs after specific head movements and has the characteristics of nystagmus, including with respect to latency time, fatigability and transiency. Canalithiasis [3] and cupulolithiasis [4] are the most probable mechanisms underlying BPPV. Although any of the three semicircular canals may be involved, canalithiasis of the posterior semicircular canal is the underlying cause in at least 85% of patients [5].

Effect of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo on Auditory-Verbal Memory
Background and Objective: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of vertigo with peripheral origin, and its psychologic consequences frequently ignored by clinicians. In this regard, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of BPPV on patient auditory-verbal memory. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 40 volunteer patients wi...
متن کاملVestibulo-Ocular Reflex Abnormalities in Posterior Semicircular Canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo: A Pilot Study
Introduction: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), involving the semicircular canals, is one of the most common diseases of the inner ear. The video head impulse test (vHIT) is a new test that examines the function of the canals. This study aimed to investigate the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) gain, gain asymmetry and saccades after stimulating all six canals in patients definitively d...
متن کاملThe Role of Oxidative Stress and Inflammatory Mediators in Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.
OBJECTIVE Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common peripheral cause of vertigo. It can be defined as transient vertigo induced by rapid changes in head position associated with a characteristic paroxysmal positional nystagmus. The aim of this study was to search for the possible role of oxidative stress and inflammatory mediators in the pathogenesis of BPPV. MATERIALS AN...

Background: Meniere’s disease (MD) is a chronic illness defined as an idiopathic syndrome of endolymphatic hydrops. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a balance disorder and can be the sequel of diverse inner ear impairments. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of BPPV in MD patients. Materials and Methods: All patients with definite or prob...
متن کاملInfluence of supplemental vitamin D on intensity of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo: A longitudinal clinical study
Background: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is linked to vitamin D deficiency. This clinical trial aimed to determine the influence of vitamin D supplementation on intensity of BPPV. Methods: The study population was selected consecutively and the diagnosis of BPPV was made by history and clinical examination and exclusion of other conditions. Intensity of BPVV was assessed based...
